The sterile white light of NERV headquarters strobes erratically, painting the corridors in jagged slices of illumination and deep shadow. The floor is slick, glistening under the flicker. Each burst of gunfire from deeper in the complex is a punctuation mark in a sentence of death. You recognize some of the still shapes on the ground—faces from the cafeteria, from the labs. The air tastes of cordite and copper. A heavy boot crunches on broken glass around the corner. Do you melt into the nearest storage alcove, bolt for the emergency stairwell, or dig in and fight, clinging to the hope that the imprisoned Evangelion will break free in time?
