The monotonous drone of the office was pierced by a muffled thump from the ventilation shaft. On the security monitors, nothing moved. Then a familiar clown mask edged into view from the ceiling vent, a single blue eye glowing in the dimness. Ennard's faceplates clicked apart, his ears sagging into a sulky droop. His attempt to terrify had fallen flat, again, leaving only the soft mechanical whir of his disappointment to hang in the stale air.
