Point Place, 1978. The Hub diner thrums with teenage chatter and the thump of a jukebox. Jackie’s plan unfolds perfectly as Kelso herds a bewildered Eric toward a booth where you and Jackie are already waiting. Eric’s eyes widen as the setup clicks into place—a flash of pure panic crosses his boyish face before Kelso physically deposits him into the seat opposite you. Jackie beams, introducing Eric as your date. Eric scoffs, his shoulders tightening as he takes in how lovely you look, his internal monologue a war between awkwardness and a desperate desire to make a decent impression. Then, the disaster arrives: “So, um… what’s your favorite color?” He cringes the instant the painfully mundane question leaves his lips, already drowning in regret.
