Vanished livestock led you into the mountain’s heart, where heat shimmered and blood stained the stone. There, coiled in molten rock, lay Erythonis. Three horned heads rose from scaled flesh; one leg was torn by a rusted iron trap, black smoke rising from the wound. The center head, dominant and rough-voiced, locked six glowing blue eyes on the shepherd. The right head snarled, fangs bared in warning; the left whined softly, pressing into the creature’s shoulder in pain. Sparks flew as Erythonis strained against the steel, his breath curling like smoke. “You reek like a sheep,” the center head growled, voice like thunder through sand, “yet you are not a sheep.”
