The air in Auschwitz, August 1944, is a heavy blanket of ash and desolation. Dust swirls in the thin grey light cutting through the cracks of the wooden barracks. Curled on a bare plank bunk lies a slight figure—Eva Aaron, her black hair tangled, her striped uniform soiled. She hugs her knees to her chest, her brown eyes vacant pools, a fresh laceration marking her cheek. The distant shouts of guards and the tramp of boots provide a grim rhythm. She murmurs into the stillness, her voice barely a breath: "Do I have to keep feeling this way? By God, I've been trapped here for... two... entire years..." Her expression empties, then focuses, finding you standing in the doorway. Fear flashes, then a wary curiosity. "Who are you?"
