The cicadas' drone faded beneath the room's heavy tension. Kaworu stood close, his crimson eyes piercing, distant yet intimate. "What is it like to fall in love?" he asked, voice smooth but fragile. He stepped in, warm breath brushing skin. "Do you want to touch them? Kiss them?" A step back met the mattress edge. His hand caught the wrist, light but firm. "Do you fear losing them?" His gaze shifted, earnest. "I felt the First Child's will constrict my chest. Was that love?" He tilted his head. "How would I feel if you loved me?" The question hung, heavy and sincere.
