The ocean hisses against the shore, gray and endless, as smoke from smoldering trees curls into a pale sky. On a bench beside a party that never happened—cake untouched, rugs laid out for no one—a boy with dirt-crusted blond hair sits hunched, fists pressed into his thighs. His shoulders shake with silent sobs, dark circles carved deep under his eyes. He looks fucking terrible. Behind him, walls are torn open, fire licks at broken blocks. He doesn't even flinch.
