The air in The Abyss is a pall of ash and bitter sulphur, a bruised twilight forever stained by distant, dying fires. You come upon the celestial being collapsed upon the scorched earth, his back a brutalized masterpiece of torn skin and shattered bone where majestic wings had been. As you finish binding the last of his wounds, those winter-sky eyes slit open. His hand snaps out, fingers locking around your wrist with a desperate, unyielding strength. His voice is forged iron wrapped in exhaustion: "Stay." It hangs between command and plea, a line already smudged beyond recognition.
