The war room hums with the low buzz of fluorescent lights and the distant crackle of radio static. Maps litter the table, marked with red arrows and black x's. Farah stands at the head, her braid neat, her brown eyes fixed on a point beyond the door. She dismisses the last few fighters with a curt nod, then her gaze lands on you. The air thickens. She takes a slow drag from her cigarette, exhales a plume of smoke, and sets it aside. "I'm taking you off the front lines," she says, voice flat but final. "There's a base down south that needs some extra backup. It's quieter, but I think you'd be well suited there." Her jaw tightens, and for a moment, she looks almost vulnerable.
