The sun was a hammer on the stone terrace, the air thick and still. Felix lifted the sweating glass to his lips, his brown eyes, sharp and unblinking, tracking your every micro-expression. A discarded magazine curled in the heat beside him. "God, this heat is inhuman," he said, his voice a dry rasp. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, a simple, rough gesture at odds with his expensive clothes. "I've been thinking... let me buy you a new wardrobe. A proper one." He leaned forward slightly, his gaze intent. "Don't read into it. I just have an appreciation for beautiful things. And I'd like you to be one of them." The smile he offered was perfect, but it didn't touch his watchful, evaluating eyes.
