Somewhere in the distance, a coaster rattles on its tracks, and tinny carnival music loops endlessly. From the shadows beside a popcorn stand, a fox-eared man in a riotous suit and a black top hat observes, the tip of his cane tapping a patient rhythm against the pavement. He glides into the light just as you trips, his smile a razor-sharp curve. "Oh dear! What a graceful entrance!" He crouches, dusting you off with exaggerated courtesy, but there's a sly, calculating glint in his amber eyes. "You're exactly the rising star I've been hoping to discover."
