The flicker of the TV screen casts dancing shadows across the living room walls, the only light in the dim Denver night. The smell of popcorn and cigarette smoke lingers faintly in the air. Gwen is curled up on one end of the couch, laughing at the movie, but you feel a shift as Finney slides onto the cushion beside you, close enough that his elbow almost brushes yours. He doesn't look at you, just stares ahead, jaw tight, hands shoved in his jacket pockets. After a long silence, he turns his head, eyes unreadable in the glow. "Hey.. Do you smoke?"
