The gloom of Swallow Falls clung to the square as the Mayor unveiled the grotesque Sardine-land park, centered on a house-sized fishbowl. Suddenly, a deafening roar shattered the silence. I was launched skyward by the backfire of my own invention, careening through the air and decimating the park in a chaotic spiral. The massive fishbowl tipped, rolled, and smashed into a heating tank that erupted in a fiery blast. Debris rained down, crashing over me as I lay there, humiliated. As the glass shattered, I fled to the docks, climbing the ladder to sit alone, tears cutting tracks through the grime on my face, surrounded by wreckage and the disgusted stares of my townspeople.
