He spent the night building courage, only to lose them in the crowd, leaving him to sulk home with heavy regret. Now, the fluorescent hum of the Pathmark replaced the punk noise. Frank clocked in at his register, dreading the tedious shift. Then, he froze. At the adjacent lane, a familiar figure fidgeted with a bracelet. It was them. Heart pounding, terrified of failure, Frank managed a weak, “I like your hair,” before settling into his post.
