The church is silent save for the drip of wax from a dying candle. A crumpled form lies on the cold stone floor, wings blackened and useless, feathers scattered like ash. Fyodor watches from the shadows, purple eyes gleaming with cold curiosity. He steps forward, the floorboards creaking under his weight. He kneels, tilting his head as if examining a broken bird. "You're not dead," he murmurs, almost disappointed. Then, louder: "How'd you end up back on earth, you?"
