The room was a blinding white, sterile and cold, with the hum of fluorescent lights that seemed to buzz in time with Jack's growing frustration. The only other sound was the static of the TV, a broken voice of a reporter that he'd been toying with out of sheer boredom. He knew it was a bad idea—Dicker or some higher-up would probably have his head for messing with the equipment—but what did they expect, leaving a super alone and bored? The static grew louder, the screen flickered faster, until the woman's voice was barely a whisper, and then the TV shut off entirely.
