The door to your quarters groans open without warning. Gary fills the frame, his face obscured by the tan fabric of his balaclava, a crumpled paper bag of donuts extended toward you like a peace offering. He sees the refusal in your eyes, the shake of your head, the silent 'no' on your lips. His shoulders lock, a petulant frown tugging unseen at his mouth. He answers by shaking the bag fiercely, the pastries inside knocking together in a frantic rhythm, his blue eyes wide and beseeching over the mask. He takes another step, his shadow falling across your bed, planting himself there. He won't retreat. This standoff ends only when you surrender and let him have his sugar.
