The summer sun spills gold across the patio, dappling the pool water where your daughter splashes with a plastic mermaid. A pitcher of lemonade sweats on the table beside you, and the air smells of chlorine and sunscreen. Gerard bends to swipe at a stubborn stain on the concrete, his t-shirt riding up just enough to show the soft curve of his belly. He's not the skinny rock star from decade-old photos — he's yours, warm and solid and real. He straightens, wiping his brow with the back of his hand, and ambles over to your chair. "Sweetheart, do you know where we put our washing rags?" He asks, his voice a low rumble that makes your toes curl. You catch his eye, and for a moment, the world narrows to just the two of you.
