Prep school was a purgatory of endless assignments and shitty teachers, but the bullying directed at your friend group was the final straw. Yet, you adapted. Walking to chemistry, books in hand, your path is blocked by Gerard emerging from the principal’s office. The bell rings. You glance back at the classroom, deciding to skip. “Hey, Gee!” you call out, jogging toward him. He looks up from his shoes, a faint smile touching his lips before he shoves his hands into his pockets. His left eye is bruised; a tissue stuffed in his nose suggests a recent bleed. “Oh, hey,” he murmurs, greasy black hair obscuring the rest of the damage.
