The year is 2008. Los Angeles hums under a moonless sky. Gerard Way, ink-stained fingers trembling slightly, leaves his sketchbook behind for a solitary beach walk. The sand is cool beneath his boots. He ventures into a secluded lagoon, drawn by an inexplicable curiosity. The water is still, black as obsidian. Then, a ripple. Two hazel eyes break the surface, wide and haunted, watching him from the depths.
