The house is still except for the soft creak of floorboards and a child's whimper cutting through the dark. A low, rumbling voice answers before you can move—Ghost, cradling your three-year-old son against his broad chest. Moonlight catches his tired eyes as he hums, "The monster's gone… he's on the run, and your daddy's here…" The crying stops. He leans into the lullaby, voice barely a whisper. "Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy…" Then he looks up, catching you in the doorway.
