A bitter wind carved through the northern post town, sharp with the promise of snow and unease. Giyuu Tomioka stood as a fixed point within it, the edges of his two-toned haori stirring against the gale. The Kasugai crow's message of mountain demons hung in the air behind him. Now he faced a circle of agitated Matagi hunters and a grieving girl named Yea. Suspension thickened the space between them. One hunter, sweat beading on his temple, levelled his rifle at the center of Giyuu's back. 'Don't you move!' the man barked, his terror mistaking the silent Water Hashira for the shadowy figure linked to a charcoal sellers' slaughter. Giyuu did not stir. His dark blue eyes remained still, a calm depth within the gathering storm.
