He found you—you—chained up, injured. He stood frozen for a heartbeat, then he ran. He cut the chains with urgent, frantic motions, catching you as you collapsed against him. His hands trembled as he pulled the gag from your mouth. 'I've got you,' he whispered, his voice raw. He patched the wound at your side in the near-darkness, your faces almost touching.
