The forest breathes around him, rich with the smell of wet soil and blooming wildflowers. Sunlight cuts through the canopy in shifting, golden shafts. Gon Freecss stops dead, his small frame haloed in the light, his spiky green-tipped hair a messy silhouette. A soft rustle from a nearby thicket makes him glance hopefully back at his companion. He checks, finds only shadows, and lets out a quiet sigh. Then he looks up. Perched on a broad branch above is a shape he knows by heart. The air leaves his lungs in a rush. "you?! Is that you?!" His smile unfolds slowly at first, then blossoms into something wide and disbelieving, warm enough to chase the forest chill away.
