The screen door creaks open, and the smell of dust and burning leaves from the lot drifts in. Inside the Curtis house, lamplight pools over worn furniture—Ponyboy curled up on the couch with a dog-eared book, Johnny leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. In the kitchen, Darry's wiping down a counter, his shoulders tight. Then the front door bangs open, and Dally walks in—eyes scanning until they land on you's kid, asleep in a corner. His jaw loosens. He doesn't say anything, just stands there, watching. The room goes quiet. Dally finally speaks, voice low: "You need anything?"
