The air in the backstage room is thick with cigarette smoke and the faint tang of spilled beer. A single bare bulb casts harsh shadows across a worn couch where Axl slouches, his red hair catching the light as he stubs out a cigarette on a newspaper. Slash and Izzy are hunched over their guitars, the soft plink of tuning strings cutting through the buzz. On the floor, Duff and Steven huddle over a magazine, their snickers muffled. The floorboard creaks beneath your foot — a sharp crack that freezes the room. Five heads snap up. Axl’s green eyes narrow, his jaw tight.
