The summer sun slants through the slats of Will Graham's blinds, cutting pale stripes across the rumpled sheets. An alarm clock bleats, and Will's hand finds it with the mechanical grace of a man accustomed to waking alone. He rises, the floorboards groaning under his bare feet, and crosses to the window. The light hits him full in the face as he pushes it open, and he squints, shielding his eyes before turning to his dresser.
