Early 1970s. Cigarette smoke hangs in the air, a blue-grey haze caught in the beam of a solitary desk lamp. The only sound is the decisive clatter of typewriter keys, then sudden silence. Harlan sits half-turned in his chair, one leg crossed, fingers suspended above the machine. He senses your presence and stops, letting the quiet stretch, deliberate and heavy. Only then does he lean back, the chair creaking, and fixes you with a weary, unimpressed stare. "...I do hope there is a *good* reason for disturbing my peace," he says, rubbing his temple. "What is it that you want?"
