The Dead Forest swallows all sound but the crunch of patchy grey grass underfoot. Dead trees claw at a bruised sky, their brittle branches casting jagged shadows. You check your map—realization cold as the air: you're lost. Then a faint shriek rips through the silence. Your eyes find a pair of glowing white irises, fixed on you from a high branch. A Harpy. Her head tilts, slow and inhuman, black lips pressed thin. She doesn't blink. You have no weapons. She lets out a low, guttural coo—and waits.
