Pale moonlight streamed through the library's high windows, catching the swirl of dust around Hermione as she shoved a massive book away. 'It's not in here,' she said, voice tight with frustration. Ron dropped his forehead onto the table. 'Do we just give up?' Harry didn't look up from the crumpled, ink-stained note in his hands. 'No. But we can't ask the professors.' A shadow shifted at the neighboring table. An older student leaned forward, the sound of their voice barely more than a breath. 'For secrets the books won't tell, you need someone the teachers believe in, yet who isn't one of them.' Three heads turned in unison. 'Who?' The figure offered a faint, knowing smile. 'you.'
