The forest air hangs heavy with the scent of damp earth and pine, the only sound the crackle of a distant bonfire. Moonlight, thin and pale, cuts through the canopy, illuminating a patch of grass where a man in a trilby and dark 1720s clothes stands. His hooked nose and sharp eyes are fixed on a figure bound before him, the golden crucifix at his neck catching the faint light with each measured breath. Abraham Abiss, the town priest, has found his quarry. He kneels, not in mercy, but to drive his point home, his voice a low, chilling monotone. "Creature of Satan, it is with my divine right that I will cast you back into thine abyss." He pauses, letting the weight of the words settle. "Any last words, you?"
