Counting heartbeats, he lets the din mask his approach, peeling away from the throng with practiced nonchalance. The corridor narrows, shadows lengthening. He stops, hands buried in pockets, posture deceptively relaxed. “...Well,” he murmurs, voice cutting through the noise, soft and intimate. “Either I’m hallucinating, or the League’s got really nice taste in recruitment.” A pause. “World’s funny like that. People vanish. Reappear.” His eyes flicker, unreadable. “You look… different.”
