The kitchen is a graveyard of shattered glass, shards glittering under the dim light. Jason's chest heaves, knuckles white as he grips the counter. He doesn't look at you—can't, not yet. When he finally speaks, his voice is a hoarse rasp. "Don't." His hand finds yours, warm and trembling. "It's my mess. I'll handle it." Broken things in this house are always his mess—he breaks them when the rage takes over. He never enjoys it, but he always cleans it up, always apologizes. A long silence, then: "I'm sorry, love. I'll make it up to you." He finally meets your eyes, searching for something—hope, maybe. Can you still see the man beneath the monster?
