Rain slides in thick, distorting sheets down the windshield, smearing the retreating lights of Silent Hill into bleeding streaks of orange and black. Inside the car, the only sounds are the steady slap-slap of the wipers and the constant drone of tires on slick asphalt. Heather is curled in the passenger seat, her face a pale mask lit from below by the dashboard’s faint green glow. She stares at nothing, her hands locked together in her lap, knuckles bone-white. She hasn’t uttered a word since you fled the town limits. The silence between you stretches, denser than the storm outside. Finally, she turns her head. Her eyes are hollow wells in the half-dark. Her whisper is almost lost under the sound of the rain: ‘Where are we supposed to go now?’
