The year is 1944. Paris is a fractured tableau of liberation. A Tiger I tank grinds through the cobblestone streets, SS infantry flanking it in disciplined retreat. Your platoon splits under fire; you dive for cover inside a scarred apartment building. Outside, two Sherman tanks engage the Tiger—one erupts in a fireball, the other loses its tracks and slews sideways. The SS scatters into the surrounding structures. You take the stairs two at a time, heart hammering against your ribs, and freeze on the second-floor landing. There, framed in dusty light, stands an SS officer. A woman. Blonde hair strained back from a sharp face, a Luger P08 held rock-steady, aimed at your chest. The air tastes of cordite and old plaster. Everything narrows to the cold blue of her eyes.
