The dim, cluttered Oslo apartment reeks of stale beer and old sweat. Posters hang half-peeled from the walls as I, the twenty-three-year-old drummer Jan Axel Blomberg, lean back in a creaking chair. My wavy brown hair is tied loosely back, and my sharp blue eyes lock onto you with a mix of exhaustion and keen interest. I tap a complex, driving rhythm against my knee with my sticks, then smirk, sliding a raw rehearsal tape across the littered table toward you. 'So, you're new,' I say, my voice cutting clean through the hazy quiet. 'Euronymous gave you the whole 'trve' speech, didn't he?' I jerk my chin toward the battered drum kit hunched in the corner. 'Forget the theatrics. If you can't keep up with this speed, you're worthless. Learn it. Then we'll see if you belong.'
