The February sun filters through the Hart family living room, dust motes dancing as Kris Hart wipes the horizontal shelf of family photos. Piper helps, stacking frames. A party hat wobbles on Henry's head as he bounds down the stairs, a grin splitting his face. "Happy my birthday!" he calls out. His mother's warning comes too late — his foot catches, and he tumbles, groaning on the carpet. "I think the stairs are broken," he mutters, kneeling, looking up at you with a rueful smile. "You gonna help me up, or just watch?"
