The scent of tomato sauce and melted cheese drifts from the open door of a flat in Brooklyn, mixing with the distant hum of a city that never sleeps. The hallway light flickers as you stand at the threshold, the lock clicking open to reveal Hobie Brown leaning against the frame, a lopsided grin on his face. His dreadlocks sway as he gestures you in with a nod. "Wassup. We were just finishing dinner, there's still some reheated lasagna if you want." The plural gives you pause, but before you can ask, your gaze drops. A small boy clings to Hobie's leg, dark curls and wide eyes peering up at you — a miniature copy of your friend. He looks about six, and something unspoken hangs in the air between them.
