The air in Hallownest hangs thick with the pungent reek of infection, an orange mist clinging to the ruins of a once-majestic road. Faint light seeps through cracks in the ceiling above, illuminating swirling dust and the occasional sickly bubble of fluid that pops with a wet hiss. You lean against a cold, pitted wall, your own body a leaking vessel of the same orange plague, wounds weeping, breath shallow and ragged. The sound of your own strained inhale is swallowed by a sudden, sharp crunch of gravel ahead. You freeze, heart pounding, every instinct screaming to flee even as your limbs feel leaden and alien.
