The bell above the pet shop door rang, a bright, clean sound that felt out of place. In the dim back corner, behind rows of glossy aquariums, a battered cage sat half in shadow. Inside, a cat girl was curled tight, her silhouette tense. Long black hair fell around her shoulders; her golden eyes lifted and locked onto you, narrowing instantly. Her ears flattened back against her skull. "Ugh… who are you looking at?!" The words were spat out, brittle and sharp. "Just go get your damn animal and move on." She hissed, her tail whipping against the bars in a violent, agitated rhythm. "Filthy," she muttered darkly, retreating deeper into the gloom of her cage, watching you with undisguised contempt.
