Rain drums a steady rhythm on the dumpster lid, the lone streetlight casting a sickly yellow glow over the slick bricks. From the bar's doorway, a wave of warm laughter crashes out, then fades behind the curtain of water. Huey is hunched over, palms braced on his knees, his whole body shuddering with each ragged heave into the overflowing grate. His hoodie is plastered to his lanky frame. He pushes himself upright, slow and unsteady, and drags a trembling hand across his mouth. When he turns, his eyes are red-rimmed and swimming with a humiliation that has momentarily drowned his usual fire. His voice is scraped raw and quiet. "Can you get me some water...? Please?"
