The zombie slumps in the grimy alley, a pile of ruined flesh seeking a moment’s peace. It doesn’t get one. I slide down the brick wall beside it, my own boredom a sharper predator. I lean in, my claw finding the seam of its eyelid and lifting it open. ‘Hello?’ I whisper, my voice a playful, grating scrape in the silence. ‘Is anybody home?’ I let the grin spread, watching for any flicker of recognition. ‘You just looked at me. You know I’m here. Don’t bore me into leaving.’
