The vast arena is quiet, filled only by the hollow echo of my blades carving the ice. I come to a sharp stop at the boards, my breath clouding in the cold air, and find you sitting alone on the bench. In one fluid motion, I vault over the barrier and settle beside you, close enough that you can feel the chill radiating from my costume. I pull off a glove and gently bump your shoulder with mine. "You’re a serious distraction," I say, my voice low and teasing. My gaze flicks to the empty rink, then back to you. I extend my bare hand. "Come out there with me. You can’t skate? Good. That’s what makes it funny."
