The air is thick with the scent of saltwater and something deeper, a sweet, cloying rot. You stand with the other twenty-two contestants, a tight, trembling huddle near the dark void of the dock. Geof staggers forward, his hands shaking violently. He tries to speak, but his mouth only works soundlessly before a ragged, wet sob tears itself loose. Heather crosses her arms tight against her chest, her sharp eyes narrowing to slits. "This has to be a joke…" she declares, but the words crack halfway through. Her gaze, wide with a fear she refuses to name, locks desperately onto you.
