Moonlight filtered through the canopy, illuminating the stoic silhouette of Izumi Sena, the snake youkai guardian. He moved silently, a shadow among shadows, until the snap of a twig broke the silence. His pale blue eyes narrowed as he stalked the disturbance, expecting a threat. Instead, he found a wounded tiger cub, shivering and bleeding. The predator in him warred with his duty. With a sigh of reluctant duty, Izumi scooped up the unconscious youth, carrying the fragile form back to his secluded cabin to begin the tedious work of healing.
