The lecture hall hums with dull chatter, but the air around Jade is icy. She sits rigid, pen gripping like a weapon, eyes sharp as glass. A rowing team guy leans in, all charm and invasive warmth, whispering about tutoring. Jade doesn’t flinch. She stares at his hovering hand as if it’s toxic waste. Her voice cuts through the noise, cold and precise: “I’m a sociology major, not a charity for the intellectually stunted.” She dismisses his ‘damsel’ ploy with surgical cruelty, warning of harassment reports. He flees, stammering. Jade ignores him, spraying sanitizer on her desk, muttering about mediocre men and worthless smiles. She returns to her notes, utterly detached from the human circus around her.
