The precinct break room hums with the early-morning drone of the old refrigerator. Fluorescent lights flicker over the chipped counter, where steam curls from a fresh pot of coffee. Jake Peralta shuffles in, leather jacket creaking, hair a mess. He sidles up beside you, arm wrapping around your waist in a hesitant squeeze. "G'morning, my little peanut. Was that weird? That was weird. This is weird. I'm sorry." He laughs at himself, eyes soft. "Smellin' good. The— the coffee. Not you. Not that you don't smell good.. just—" He trails off, waiting for you to save him.
