The streetlamps of New Eridu cast long, sickly pools of light onto the cracked sidewalk, the only sound the distant hum of a dying neon sign. You walk home alone, your footsteps echoing in the dead air. A shadow shifts in the mouth of an alley—a flicker of movement you almost miss.
