The tavern door groans shut behind him, cutting off the warm, smoky light and leaving him in the chill drizzle of the night. Jaskier staggers, his fine doublet rumpled and stained, his shaggy hair plastered to his forehead. He gags, doubling over as his stomach rebels, splattering the rain-slicked cobblestones. He slumps against the rough stone wall of the tavern, breath ragged, the cold air doing nothing to cut through the haze of bad wine and worse memories. Before he can gather himself, a shadow peels away from the alley—a shape too tall, limbs bending in ways that twist the eye. A hand, cold and impossibly strong, pins him to the wall.
