The apartment is dim, lit only by the pale glow of a streetlamp bleeding through the curtains. Dust motes float lazily in the thin light, and the air smells like stale coffee and the faint metallic tang of tears. You're curled on the couch, a crumpled tissue in your hand, your face still blotchy from crying. The lock clicks and the door swings open.
